Supper at Sunset set for September 26th

Six years ago, Downtown Denton Main Street, local farmers, and chefs—in collaboration with Farm to Table—planned and hosted “Supper at Sunset.” Their shared goal was to use the best, local farm fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats to create a distinctive, and scenic dining experience for patrons. Over time, “Supper at Sunset,” became a singular event, much anticipated by area diners.

“Supper at Sunset” now showcases the talent of our community chefs using locally sourced foods when possible or selected wholesale foods when local is not an option. Traditionally, “Supper at Sunset” has been held on Market Street. A section of road was temporarily closed in preparation for the meal. Party lights were strung, and tables were placed end-to-end so one continuous setting could be accomplished while encouraging a true community meal and while appreciating the sunset and scenery of the historic district.

Occasionally, the supper has been held elsewhere. One year, the Visitor Center provided a different, scenic setting beside the Choptank River. This year, because COVID 19 has presented its unique challenges, the community dining concept has been re-imagined for health and safety purposes.

Rather than tables being placed in an uninterrupted line, smaller tables accommodating parties of two to six diners, will be used. The yard at the Culinary Center is this year’s selected locale since it allows for the necessary physical distancing. The supper date is set for September 26th with a rain date of September 27th.

The meals will be served in four courses instead of family-style service, another health-smart practice. Wine will be paired with each course, the selections provided and reviewed by Triple Creek Winery. Patti’s Petals will be dressing the tables and adding florals. The Downtown Denton Main Street Board of Directors will be acting as wait staff.

The menu includes bruschetta appetizer, garden salad, beef filet and shrimp entrée, and a berry cobbler dessert. Tickets can be purchased at $60 per person or $110 for a couple. If you have special dietary need such as vegetarian or gluten free options, please provide that information at time of ticket purchase. Net proceeds from the supper will help fund numerous mini grants for Downtown Denton Main Street businesses affected by COVID 19 restrictions.

“Supper at Sunset” is the primary fundraiser for Downtown Denton Main Street businesses and community ventures. Other events are planned for the year, including a Halloween event on Saturday, October 24th. Shop Small Saturday & our Annual Holiday Window contest will kick-off the holiday shopping season on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The always anticipated Holiday Market starts the first weekend in December, following the Holiday Parade.
